Visit Bundi – Rajasthan’s Hidden Architectural Treasure
Planning a peaceful yet culturally rich getaway? Explore Bundi, the lesser-known gem of Rajasthan, famed for its stepwells (baoris), palaces, frescoes, and untouched medieval charm. Nestled between the Aravalli hills, Bundi is a town of narrow lanes, blue houses, and royal legacy – perfect for history lovers, artists, and offbeat explorers.
Built in the 14th century, this imposing fort offers sweeping views of the city and valley below. It’s one of India’s oldest hill forts, featuring tunnels, battlements, and battle-scarred architecture.
Right below the fort, this ornate palace showcases magnificent Rajput murals, mirror work, and jharokhas. The Chitrashala (Hall of Paintings) inside is a highlight with preserved frescoes.
Bundi is known for over 50 historic stepwells. Raniji ki Baori is the most famous – a multi-storied, artistically carved structure built in 1699 by the queen.
A small summer palace by the lake, Sukh Mahal was once visited by writer Rudyard Kipling. Its peaceful setting and colonial charm make it worth a stop.
This man-made lake reflects the Bundi Palace and fort beautifully. An island temple dedicated to Varuna (Rain God) sits at its center.
Built in 1740, this intricately designed memorial is a tribute to royal ancestors. The architecture is a hidden marvel.
